The picture in the caption speaks volumes and answers the question about why some churches teach the money tithe doctrine. Centuries ago the Holy Roman Catholic Church devised a method to ensure a continual rich source of money to support large mortgage payments to build and pay for huge cathedrals. Once a contract was signed with a bank for 30 to 40 years, someone had to pay that expense. The cost of that was passed on to the congregation by turning the biblical agricultural herd and flock tithe system into an income-based money system with Malachi 3:8-10 as their justification out of context. When the church abandoned the house church model practiced in the New Testament, Christian pastors started buying into the new method of building church buildings by converting the Biblical food tithe to money with the justification that economies changed, so the food tithe became money tithing as the main fundraising tool. This changed the dynamics of Christianity forever. Although the first temple built in the Bible was built with free will offerings, pastors and churches refuse to follow that scriptural example today. So why do churches teach tithing? Below is one of my tithing slides that did not make into the upcoming book, KLEPTOMANIAC: Who’s Really Robbing God.
